Incident Summary:
A shocking incident holds Mohali’s District One market in its grip as Satwant Singh Army Soldier Arrested for allegedly shooting two rounds at a cafe owner who is said to have clashed with him over a food bill that was not cleared. The row started with a ₹7,000 not paid to Germanjit Singh-owned Urban Chai Cafe by Udit Shaukeen, the friend of the accused.
The incident:Firing at Mohali
Germanjit Singh, the owner of the cafe at Sector 68, alleged that Udit Shaukeen owed him an old food bill of ₹7,000. The incident occurred after midnight when Udit Shaukeen and Satwant Singh went to the cafe and sought a meeting with Germanjit to settle the issue. The duo had come in their SUV whose registration number was PB-70D-7200 at 1:15 am and asked Germanjit to enter the car for a discussion. Instead, there was a fierce battle and Udit started firing on the owner of the cafe. Then, it is said that Satwant began firing off two bullets.
Satwant’s shot missed him because Germanjit deflected Satwant’s arm. The employees and guards from the neighbouring eateries, alarmed by the gunshots, ran into the scene where Satwant Singh was caught, while Udit ran away.
Assault Recorded by CCTV:
The tussle between the staff of the cafe and Satwant Singh had also been recorded on the CCTV camera. In the video, Germanjit and his staff were seen assaulting Satwant and hitting him with chairs and other objects, which made the accused bleed profusely. Even though he suffered injuries too, Germanjit Singh was also seen to confront the assailant.
Police Action and Arrest:
Just within minutes of alerting the police by calling up the control room at 112, a police team reached the spot. The complainant as well as the accused were sent to the Civil Hospital in Phase 6 for treatment. Satwant Singh Army Soldier Arrested after the treatment.
Recovered Weapon and Investigation:
Police recovered a 45-bore Indian-made pistol and a Toyota Fortuner from Satwant Singh. The pistol does not belong to the accused, and the police are going to investigate the license holder of the weapon. Udit Shaukeen, who escaped from the spot immediately after the incident, is also being searched for by the authorities.

DSP HS Bal: “We acted in time. Our team, under the leadership of Inspector Rupinder Singh, arrested the prime suspect and also recovered the licensed weapon from the possession of the suspect. The weapon is not owned by the suspect, and so far, we cannot determine the licence holder. Our teams are scanning for the co-accused Udit Shaukeen.”.
Satwant Singh’s Army Background Satwant Singh is 30 years old and belongs to Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh. He is posted in Jalandhar in the Indian Army. The police said Satwant had been absent from duty for a long time; his service would be verified through formal communication with his seniors at Jalandhar. Satwant was among the protagonists in the row because he tried to intervene in a money dispute between his friend Udit and the cafe owner.
Legal Action:
Satwant Singh and Udit Shaukeen have been booked at Phase-8 police station on charges of attempt to murder and the Arms Act. The police are also contemplating a cross-FIR based on the CCTV footage wherein it is shown that the staff at the cafe assaulted Satwant Singh.
Conclusion:
This episode, which was initially over the non-payment of food items, culminated with attempted murder and, subsequently, violence. The police had managed to seize the weapon quickly, but investigations are still going on in the case regarding both parties’ involvement.
